Bagpuss

The country's favourite BBC childrens programme of all time

From their launch in mid-year 2004 our Bagpuss figurines have become firm favourites amongst our collectors. First shown in 1974 in Watch With Mother only 13 episodes were ever made. The programme was so popular that the series has been repeated 27 times.

Bagpuss was devised and created by the brilliant minds of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firman, who also created Noggin the Nog, The Clangers, Ivor the Engine and Pogle's Wood. Oliver Postage not only wrote Bagpuss but also provided some of the voice-overs. Peter Firman said: "I created the visual character of Bagpuss after I had the idea of a cat with visible thoughts, but it was Oliver who breathed life into the creation by supplying his thoughts and voice".

Clangers

a fondly remembered cult series

Clangers are imaginary creatures from another planet somewhere in the vast starry stretches of outer space. The Clanger family communicate with their now famous high-pitched Clanger whistle and share their planet with a variety of wondrous creatures. The Soup Dragon lives in a well and provides the Clangers with Green Soup. The Froglets travel about in a magical top-hat, and the Iron Chicken lives on a nest of old scrap iron she has picked up on her travels.

The programmes were 'ground breaking' when first shown on BBC Television in 1969, the year man first landed on the moon. As such, the Clangers are fondly remembered and now represent the strong retro appeal from that period.

Hummel

Youthful innocence meets Master Artist

M.I. Hummel products are the result of a successful partnership between W.Goebel Porzellanfabrik and a talented German artist, Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. Her images of youthful innocence have been transformed by the Master Artists of Goebel into original M.I. Hummel works of art.

Tragically, Sister Hummel died in 1946 at only 37 years of age. But her artistic legacy was carried on by Goebel. Even today, Goebel artists discuss each new M.I. Hummel work of art with an Artistic Board at the Convent of Siessen. Standards of craftsmanship established more than six decades ago have been strictly preserved. And M.I.Hummel figurines continue to charm the world.

The Magic Roundabout

Political satire? An allusion to 1960's culture? Or just a harmless piece of fun?

When the BBC brought French animator, Serge Danot's 1964 creation to the UK, it underwent a transformation which resulted in the creation of one of the all-time classics of children's television. Eric Thompson (late father of the actress Emma Thompson) was selected as narrator. He did not translate the French dialogue or storylines directly, but invented his own plots to match the bizarre on-screen action!

Danot's highly original visual style, combined with Thompson's understated, dry and witty scripts made an immediate impact on the viewing public. At one stage, The Magic Roundabout commanded over eight million viewers. No other children's series reached an audience of even half that size, and the series even rivalled the news as the UK's most-watched programme. Bring back happy childhood memories!

Moorcroft

The Very Finest of English Art Pottery

On the base of every single piece of Moorcroft pottery is a number of marks, each telling its own story. You can find the designer's monogram: the painter's mark: the name 'Moorcroft': the place of manufacture and the date represented by a special Moorcroft symbol. Mr Benn

As if by magic the Shopkeeper appeared...

Mr Benn and his adventures are fondly remembered from the television series first aired in 1971 and 1972. The BBC commissioned 13 episodes, each 15 minutes long, written and illustrated by his creator David McKee. Mr Benn originally appeared in a 1967 book entitled 'Mr Benn - Red Knight', which was later turned into the first episode for the television series. Mr Benn's 14th adventure, 'The Gladiator', was published as a book in 2001 and was produced for television in 2005.

In every episode Mr Benn goes into the fancy dress shop and tries on a new costume in the fitting room. After admiring himself in the mirror he goes through another door into a magical world of adventures associated with his costume. After his adventure the Shopkeeper returns Mr Benn to the ordinary world and when he gets home he always finds that he has a souvenir to remind him of his exploits.
